Acerca de la GMPA

The Global Mineral Professionals Alliance (GMPA) is a global collaboration between the peak member associations representing minerals professionals around the world.
In 2020, the GMPA seeks to set its direction and priorities for the next three years.

As at February 2020, the GMPA comprises the following organisations:

• Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM)
• The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM)
• The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3)
• The Instituto de Ingenieros de Minas de Chile (IIMCh)
• The Instituto de Ingenieros de Minas de Peru (IIMP)
• The Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration Inc (SME)
• The Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM)

Collectively, the member organizations represent approximately 60,000 members engaged globally in the minerals and mining sector.
The broad aims of the GMPA are to:

• exchange knowledge and technology
• promote technical and professional excellence across the minerals industries
• provide programs for education and professional development
• provide opportunities for knowledge sharing, business networking, fellowship and public information

Global Action on Tailings (GAT)

• GMPA members agreed to work collaboratively to address challenges around mine waste, particularly tailings. In March 2019, GMPA members undertook to engage and connect technical experts to advance discussions and solutions relating to tailings management, tailing reprocessing/repurposing and ultimately driving toward tailings elimination.
• It´s been agreed there is a need to determine how the GMPA would contribute to this initiative.
