Faculty Positions Mining Engineering

The School of Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile is calling for applications to fill several vacancies for a full-time professor in its Mining Engineering Department located in Santiago, Chile. Duties will include undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, extension, innovation and entrepreneurship activities.

 

 
 

Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree (or be currently pursuing studies to obtain such a degree) and proven ability to pursue high impact research in one of the following fields of expertise:

-Ore resource evaluation and mine planning

-Mine design and ground control of mining excavations

-Engineering and management of mining operations

-Mineral processing

Candidates should demonstrate commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, also be able to work in teams, conduct research and publish in mainstream journals. Previous working experience in the minerals industry will be valued but it is not a requirement to apply.

The candidate should have English or Spanish as native language. Knowledge of Spanish/English as a second language will be valued.

1.Statement of purpose (in Spanish or English) indicating your merits for the vacancy, and your plans in the areas of research and teaching. Be as specific as possible, e.g., giving examples of how you aim to transfer your engineering knowledge to undergraduate and graduate students, and detailing potential collaboration networks with other researchers you may have developed or intend to develop in the future.

2.Up-to-date curriculum vitae (see note B).

3.Copies of your five most recent ISI publications, if available. Otherwise, include any article you consider relevant in the context of your application.

iv.Education: list of all degrees or professional titles indicating granting institutions and dates, beginning with your secondary education diploma. If you are currently enrolled in a doctoral program, indicate the date you expect to obtain the degree.

v.Research

a.List of journal publications (ISI publications) (see note C)

b.List of other publications such as: reports, books or book chapters, conferences attended, research projects participated in, patents, etc.

vi.Other: prizes and awards, computing abilities, languages, other background information that you consider relevant.

Once the complete set of application materials has been received, the applicant will be contacted, within two months, and informed whether or not his/her application has been found acceptable. If this initial screening is successful, the candidate will be asked to give a lecture about his/her current research topics and to hold interviews with faculty members of the Mining Engineering Department, with the Dean of the School of Engineering, and with the Selection Committee.
